To the moon (again)

I was once a member of the open lunar x prize team, but that fizzled almost as quick as it started. I've now started a new endeavor to put a reddinaut on the moon, well, first an unmanned mission not unlike the lunar x prize.

All the goings on are at reddit.com/r/tothemoon for now, though we should be moving over to a more featured CMS shortly. I'll keep you up to date on the latest, we'll see if this goes or fizzles. I'm really hoping for the former.

Then it hit me

I was just sitting here thinking of nothing in particular (the best way to think), and the importance of keeping a journal came to me. So, here's what I've done today:

  • Carved a pumpkin (pictures to follow)
  • Went to church
  • We cooked a frozen lasagna (Michelle still doesnt' like it)
  • I played some farmville, though I hope this isn't a recurring theme for my journal entries
  • I realized the practical importance of keeping a journal

I always though a journal was something for my grandkids to pick up and get a little amusement out of. But I've been looking for a way to increase my own productivity, and I see how a journal could do that. We do better when we report our progress. Hopefully my grandkids will get a kick out of this someday, but all of a sudden it's important for me too. We'll see if it seems like such a priority when Monday rolls around, though I imagine it will. What a great way to collect my thoughts and move toward my goals. Here's to writing it down!

First Pennies

So the other day I wrote about having made some random scratch off of my blog. Today I've made some money off my ehow articles. I had promised to report back, so here's my report: I hadn't been checking regularly, and they were having some kind of problem with their accounting through the month of August, so until lately I hadn't made anything. My most recent check though, puts me just shy of a dollar. I'll wait for it to normalize and then report some averages per article per day. Right now I've three articles up, and earnings are relatively even across the board, though one only made money in August, and the other two only made money in September, so I wonder if there's still some minor error in their accounting.

Anyway, it's exciting progress. That's a couple bucks now from online, passive sources. A little reward is incentive to put in a little more effort and see what happens.

I know regular expressions

Wait, forgot to escape a space. Wheeeeee[taptaptap]eeeeee.
http://xkcd.com/208/

I created my first regular expression today. I still don't 'know' regular expressions, but after working this one out, I don't think I really want to. It's nice to know the basics though, so I can work one out when I need to. First I'll work on just being able to read the one I've written, it takes a little while to break it up into each functional piece in my mind.

Experiment Update

Hahaha! Life is a funny thing. So I tried eHow, like I said in the last post, and it's terrible. I've had two articles up for a month now, and had a lot more page views than I imagined, but not a single cent. I'll leave them up for another few months and see if anything comes of it, and update if necessary.

In other news though, one of my blogs produced some $$ out of the blue. It's a snarky one (whenisthefuture), and I didn't really expect it to make any money, but there it goes!

It's been getting a pretty consistent 10 views/day, and it's generating enough off the adds to renew my interest. I added a few new posts, lets hope the trend continues.

Experimenting online

Ok, a month later and I'm still blogging. Maybe not as much as I imagined, but I've had a lot of ideas and made a lot of plans.
I'm doing and experiment right now, I just published an article to eHow and I'm going to see how well it does. I'd like to compare it to my blog and see how it does as far as page views and such. Check it out How to see without glasses and let me know what you think. It's freshly uploaded, and I'll be anxiously waiting to see how it does and if writing how-tos is a worthwhile use of my time.

I'm going to try and put another post on smallbotics/beambots (the name is still in flux) tonight... I've got lots of ideas for that one, just need to flesh them all out and get them online. I haven't let any of the posts go live just yet, I want to make sure I've got a little stock of them first so it can be more consistent than say, this blog. I'll be sure to link once it's up.

Blogging Again

Haha! Lots going on. I've decided to start blogging again, but I'm older and wiser this time. And, at the moment, I'm trying to help somebody else out. I'm going to set up a blog and a shop for my dad to sell his miniature saddles. I know he's wanted that for a while, I'll see if I can make it happen.

Also, I think I've pretty much given up on a daily render for now, but I just registered to sell on iStockPhoto.com, and I'm planning to do some 3D work and some photography for that. I'll see how it goes and let you know.
